A Better Heart

Beloved friends,

I am home again after a five day hospital stay. God is doing something very special for me.

Last Thursday morning (Sept 10), I experienced a lot of dizziness and shortness of breath. I was extremely disappointed because I had been feeling so good for weeks.

For several weeks I was feeling full of energy. In August I was hospitalized and received four units of blood (from an ongoing GI bleeding problem explained here) AND I began a yeast free, sugar free diet. I recently took myself off several medications and felt I was taking charge of my health and excited about the progress.

The frustrating dizziness remained all morning. I was getting ready for a new 9:30 Bible study when I received some upsetting news. I was really upset over the news (honestly, I overreacted).  I left the house–upset and aggravated– to drive to the class.  A few miles from home, I experienced  tightening in my chest. The tightening grew into chest pains.

One of the most aggravating thing about heart disease is once you feel tightening in your heart you worry which makes everything worse – somewhat like having Braxton-Hicks (pre-labor) contractions in your ninth month of pregnancy. You know something is going on but you aren’t sure when it is time to go to the hospital.

Pain brings on anxiety, which leads to more chest pressure which leads to more anxiety–it’s a frightening cycle.

I pulled my car over to call 911 at the Kangaroo convenience store.

Behind the Scenes

A few days earlier at Sunday evening church service we sang was “Change my Heart Oh God.” It’s one of my favorite songs and always makes me teary.

You know how a song gets stuck in your head? This song kept drifting to my mind during those five days.

While I waited for the ambulance, the song played over and over in my head. I was praying “Lord, if I am coming home I want to be surrounded by my family–not sitting in the Kangaroo convenience parking lot, but your will be done, please watch over my children.”

Change my heart oh God,
make it ever true.
Change my heart oh God,
may I be like You.

You are the potter,
I am the clay,
mold me and make me,
this is what I pray.

The ambulance took me to the local Shelbyville hospital. There the doctors saw significant problems with my EKG and transported me to Middle TN hospital with cardiac unit.

World Wide Prayers

A few phone calls and tweets started a prayer chain in my church, Twitter, and Facebook. My sweet friend, Kathleen, posted the updates on this blog and people all over the world were lifting me up to our Father.

I spent Thursday to Monday in the cardiac unit to monitor the abnormal EKGs and kept me stable with nitro and other medications.

Monday morning they preformed a cardiac catheterization (sending a tube from my groin to the heart to examine my bypass and other arteries).

The surgeon compared the new catheterization results with previous cath results and said,

Your heart looks better than it has has ever looked!” — BETTER!

God answers prayers! The minute the doctor said the word “better” the song came to my mind. Until that moment, I didn’t relate my physical heart with the song! God changed my physical heart!

How many time do we pray and really expect results?

Whenever God makes us a promise, we should boldly say, as Paul said, “I believe God (Acts 27:25), and trust Him to keep His word…” God promises to answer our request.

Jesus said promise six times over in almost in the same breath, for us to ask whatsoever we will. See Amazing Promises Jesus Made.

I have a better heart! We began our homeschool this morning with grateful prayers and praises. I feel great again–both physically and spiritually.

Be Anxious for Nothing!

The cardiologist has no explanation for the four days of EKG problems. He believes the chest pains were a combination of coming off several medications too quickly and my reaction to bad news resulted in an anxiety attack triggering the weird EKGs for several days.

I believe my heart had a problem and God fixed it!

Most of the Medical Problems Have Been Doctor Induced

In the last few years, I have received  sixteen blood transfusions, been hospitalized ten times and gone to a hematologist weekly for iron infusions and bone marrow shots.

Almost all of these medical problems are  a result of a blood thinner that I should not have been taking! I was on Plavix  over a year longer than necessary for my heart condition. The cardiologist didn’t bother to read the fine print. I asked to be taken off the medicine several times but the cardiologist did not read the research for my condition.

I was so angry when I realized that most of my medical problems have been doctor induced, I stopped taking all the medications (don’t do this–very dangerous–always work with your doctor to taper off).

A month ago I was on a dozen prescribed medications with terrible side effects. Today I am weaning off two prescriptions (people in third world countries that live to their seventies and eighties do not live on Plavix and Lipitor.)

With God’s help, a natural diet, and exercise; I believe I can control all the medical problems that have troubled me the last few years.

Thank you friends for your earnest, faithful prayers. God heard them and I am better–spiritually and physically.

Please change my spiritual heart the way you changed my physical heart for the better. Mold me and make me in Your own way!

Create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Let my heart reflect your concerns, your love. Remove any anxiousness from me and remind me to lean on You in all times.

But now, O Lord, You are our Father.
We are the clay; You are the potter;

We are all the work of Your hand.
Isaiah 64:6, 8
